As usual, we highly recommend the Dummies book series, so here you have Portuguese For Dummies (For Dummies (Language & Literature)). In a well laid out and user-friendly way you can get to know the language and cultural tidbits as you go along.

And, if you've never laid your hands on one of the 501 Verbs books, well you better believe it - they are a must have for learning any language! 501 Portuguese Verbs (Barron's 501 Portuguese Verbs) will allow you to find and be able to conjugate almost any verb that you can think of. Especially perfect for if you are taking Portuguese lessons and having to do written exercises, for example.

Finally, although the Berlitz Phrase Book and Dictionary Combo are rated higher than this one, we think that the Berlitz Portuguese Phrase Book (Berlitz Phrase Book & Audio CD Combo) is the best. Of course, it would depend on your needs and motives... maybe the dictionary combo would suit your needs if you're planning a short holiday or trip to a Portuguese speaking country. However, we would always recommend having a more extensive Dictionary (as recommended on our Portuguese Dictionaries page) if you are really doing your best to master the language. So, in that case... the Phrase Book and Audio CD that goes with it would be a better combo because you would be able to learn exactly how the phrases should be pronounced.
