A great way to learn the nuances of any language is to see and hear it spoken in real life. And what if you don't live in Russian then? Well then Russia must come to you in the form of movies!
Try this site out for size and the movie Artistka. It seems you need to open an account with this site and pay a nominal sum for each movie you watch however. Your Russian will have to be better than beginner to do that no doubt. Meanwhile you could also try this site for some cultural documentaries that help get an understanding of the Russian people in general.
It's very difficult to find Russian language films that we can openly recommend, in terms of their content. There are usually intense or disturbing scenes in most Russian films to be honest. So we have done our best but we do warn you that it will be hard to find perfectly clean Russian langauge films, unless you go back to the 50's, but even then it may be difficult to come across! So anyway, having said that, and having done our best to find clean movies to watch, you might want to try The Return, or Nikita Mikhalkov's 2 and a half hour long answer to the classic film 12 Angry Men - 12. And then there is Russian Ark which was apparently filmed in one long continuous shot - there were no breaks in filming! Quite a masterpeice when you think of how that was possible. It was filmed in and around the beautiful winter palace in the heart of Saint Petersburg, Russia, which you can see a few shots of up above.
