Did you know?

This monster-sized country covers 1/8 of the earth's surface and spans eleven time zones!

In addition, during the summer months and especially during the last days of June, a phenomenon known as "White Nights" (bieliye nochi) occurs. As the name indicates, these nights never completely go dark. As the country is so northern, the sun never quite sinks below the horizon during this season. The result are night-time skies that are a light to dark blue color, like you see in the photo above, which was taken at the time of the bridges opening in Saint Petersburg at 2 A.M. in the morning.

Useful phrases:

See you later! (Pah-KAH!)

Goodbye (Das-vid-AHN-ye)
